Being able to let go, to release anger and resentment toward another–or toward ourselves can be the ultimate challenge on the spiritual path. Nonetheless, we are continuously offered the opportunity to set ourselves and others free from the trap of unforgiveness. Here are several quotes and simple exercises to support your freedom. Going Out in Style, p. 185. In the afterlife Aaron is talking about the higher experience of forgiveness: He offered a new perspective on forgiveness, that difficult concept intruding upon his last months on Earth. 'It is quite possible that forgiveness is the most important word. It is like a cool balm, a refreshing rain. It oils all the wheels and everything comes into flow. Forgiveness is an experience. It is to be experienced. It is the door to the freedom of being absolutely at peace but eager, content but excited about what unfolds next. Here, it is not quite the same connotation as on Earth, but is a quality of being, a door to your greatest rest. It is how you keep your frequency high in order to remain here and grow. Forgiveness is an amazing rest, a mathematical equation for trust and rest. The door to freedom is forgiveness.' Certainly, Aaron had evolved in his understanding of forgiveness. From the Mahabharata: One should forgive, under any injury. It hath been said that the continuation of the species is due to man's being forgiving. Forgiveness is holiness; by forgiveness the universe is held together. Forgiveness is the might of the mighty; forgiveness is sacrifice; forgiveness is quiet of mind. Forgiveness and gentleness are the qualities of the Self-possessed. They represent eternal virtue. Forgiveness brings you peace. It doesn’t mean that you condone the actions taken by another, but that you release anger and resentment surrounding the person or situation. It’s something that you can work towards. Here’s an exercise that you can use to help bring forgiveness into your life between yourself and another person:Peace and Harmony Prayer: Picture the other person surrounded and filled by a divine white light. Then mentally repeat “Lord [or any term that you feel comfortable with such as 'Divine Mother' or 'Cosmos'], give them peace and harmony.” Repeat this over and over again for 30 seconds. Then picture yourself surrounded and filled by a divine white light and repeat, “Lord, give me peace and harmony.” for at least 10 seconds. Repeat this five times a day. Comments are closed.
